Getting Fit After Baby: Week 2

This past week has been challenging for my fitness journey. I didn’t eat the healthiest meals. I didn’t work out much this week due to a stomach bug. I also didn’t have my usual routine and schedule. But I learned that sometimes you have to listen to your body when you need to rest, and I learned not to dwell on a bad week by thinking about what you should have done, but rather to look towards the future to see what you can do better next time.

I didn’t get a chance to take pictures this week, but I was able to get my scale to show my body fat percentage in addition to my weight. I was surprised that even with my inactivity and far from perfect eating habits, that I lost 1% of body fat.

My goals for this next week: eat less desserts, drink more water, and exercise in the morning.

Getting Fit After Baby: Week 1

I completed the first week of my fitness journey to getting fit again after having a baby yesterday. I feel physically tired, but I feel emotionally energized! It wasn’t easy to find the time to work out and eat healthy while taking care of my baby girl at home, and I could definitely see that I eat less healthy (or not healthy at all) during the weekend… I’d like to blame it on the fact that my husband is home all day on the weekend, but I have to own up to the fact that I ultimately make the decision of what I eat. I haven’t seen a physical improvement in my body yet, though I’m only a week in, but I feel like my core is getting stronger.

Overall, I enjoyed my PiYo workouts this week because they’re low intensity and easy on my core. My stomach muscles are so weak after having a c-section, so I appreciate all of the modified moves in the videos.

I’m looking forward to another week of workouts, eating healthy, and getting fit. Check back next week for another update, and visit my Instagram page to see if I’ve been eating healthy every day!

Getting Fit After Baby: The Beginning of My Journey

I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl 7 weeks ago, and she has changed my life in so many wonderful ways. Saturday mornings are spent cooing and cuddling, bedtime is early, and the amount of laundry that goes through my washing machine is record-breaking. Watching my little baby grow leaves me filled with awe, and each day brings new developments and excitement. Being a mother is the best thing that I’ve ever accomplished in my life, and I wouldn’t give it up for the world.

But just as pregnancy and motherhood has changed my soul, it also changed my body. I looked into the mirror and hardly recognized the body standing in front of me. There were rolls, a general chubbiness, and cellulite in places I didn’t know it could appear. The body staring back at me was definitely not what I remembered it looking like pre-pregnancy.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m immensely proud of this body. I’m proud that it carried my little peanut for 9 months, changing and expanding to make room for her as she grew. The body staring back at me in the mirror was nothing short of a warrior whose body went through extreme changes to bring life into this world.

But now I’m 7 weeks postpartum, and my body no longer needs to carry this extra weight. For my own sanity, I need to fit into my old clothes again. Maternity clothes just won’t do anymore… well maybe I’ll keep those maternity jeans. Those stretchy banded pants are nothing short of miracle!┬áMore importantly, I need to feel fit again. I miss the strength and muscle that I had pre-pregnancy. I miss the stamina I had from doing a variety of cardio exercises. I miss the strength I had in my core before I had a c-section. I want my warrior body to be stronger.

I have a confession to make: I’m terrible at “diets” and starting to exercise after prolonged periods of inactivity. Worst of all, I always start and never seem to accomplish my goals. I get discouraged when I have a cheat meal… or a cheat day…

So that’s where you, and this weekly blog series, will come in. I need YOU to hold me accountable.

This is going to be an honest, sometimes even brutal, journey towards getting fit again after pregnancy. Over the next 8 weeks, I’ll track everything that I eat and post it to my Instagram account @ventureandroam. I will also record my weight, and I’ll post weekly pictures of my progress.

As with any journey towards weightloss and getting fit, I’ll be working out 5-6 days a week over the next 8 weeks. I’ll be doing PiYo as my workouts since I can easily fit this workout program into my schedule, I can do the workout in the comfort of my living room, and the only thing that I need is a yoga mat. (Note: I have no affiliation with PiYo or Beachbody, nor do I make any claims on their behalf.)

I hope that you’ll follow me along this journey. Hopefully, with your help, I can achieve my goal of losing 20lbs, becoming stronger, and not losing my breastmilk supply in the process! I know it’s ambitious, but I have to start somewhere!
